About this residency
A 3-month, process-oriented residency for international artists living and working outside of Finland (including artists with Finnish nationality). HIAP offers time and support for developing new work in dialogue with the local art scene, encouraging experimental, cross-disciplinary practices. Residencies are self-directed and there is no obligation to produce finalised work. HIAP provides accommodation and studio space at Suomenlinna and/or Cable Factory (Helsinki). HIAP does not charge a fee and does not provide working grants/stipends, production budgets, or travel funding (HIAP can provide letters of support for external funding applications). Residency windows in 2026: Winter (2026-01-07 to 2026-04-06), Spring (2026-04-13 to 2026-07-06), Autumn (2026-08-17 to 2026-11-16).
Application requirements
- Apply via the online application form. Required materials: (1) brief outline of professional background/biography (up to 250 words), (2) motivation statement (up to 250 words), (3) work plan (optional), (4) portfolio/examples of previous work provided as an external link (max 10 images or 3 video/audio files), (5) indication of preferred residency period(s) (Winter/Spring/Autumn) and (6) indication of preferred residency location(s).
